Erna Ómarsdottir is an Icelandic dancer and choreographer who worked notably with Jan Fabre before going on to develop work of her own. With insatiable artistic curiosity, she has taken part in several projects bordering various disciplines. One of these is the group Lazyblood, created with the composer Valdimar Jóhannsson. Featuring “heavy metal opera, sometimes slightly disco, with a theatrical dimension”, a Lazyblood concert is a unique experience, a performance built with a constant concern for the relationship with the audience. Peaceful lagoon or erupting volcano, deep forest or rocky desert, Ómarsdottir produces vocal distortions, primal singing and childlike ballads. Her unique voice generates a perpetually moving choreography. As the songs and short stories interweave, she moves through states of raw bodies, practically animal-like, and combines the live energy of the concert with the narrative reach of musical theatre. At this year’s festival, Lazyblood has invited the punk rock group Reykjavík! to join them as they explore the depths of the human psyche. An explosive encounter!Lazyblood Live @ Café Video @ Gent (2010)
